Meet Priscila Alfaro-Barrantes
Stories & Insights August 25, 2025
Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Priscila Alfaro-Barrantes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Priscila, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
For 18 years, I worked as a Business college professor before moving into the corporate world. My career had always followed a structured, “safe” path—clear roles, stable income, and predictable expectations. But deep down, I felt called to step into something completely different: starting my own business as an Intuitive Professional.
It was terrifying to even consider. On paper, it didn’t make sense—I had spent nearly two decades building credibility in higher education and corporate leadership, so why risk everything on something as unconventional and deeply personal as intuition? I sought advice from several professionals; some offered encouragement, others were skeptical, which only added to my doubts.
Then I met my mentor, Shelley. She cut through my hesitation with a simple truth: “You’re ready. You have a gift, and people need it.” Hearing that gave me the push I had been waiting for. I realized I didn’t need to have every detail figured out; I just needed to take the leap.
So, I did. I launched my business, not without fear, but with trust that my skills and calling would carry me forward. It was—and still is—scary at times. But taking that risk has been transformational. It’s opened doors to opportunities I never imagined, allowed me to serve people in meaningful ways, and shown me that sometimes the biggest risks are the ones that lead us closest to our purpose.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born with heightened intuition, but I grew up in a very conservative Catholic family where this part of me wasn’t accepted. Intuition was considered “woo-woo” or even condemned, so I learned early on to keep it hidden. Still, I always perceived and “saw” things others didn’t—I could feel emotions, sense energy, and pick up on insights that weren’t explainable.
For many years, I pushed those skills aside. I chose a traditional path, earning a doctorate and building a career as a college professor and corporate professional. I told myself I would only focus on things that could be measured and proven. But when I became pregnant with my first child, something shifted. My intuition grew stronger and stronger, to the point where I couldn’t ignore it anymore.
That’s when I started seeking guidance and working with other intuitives to better understand and develop my abilities. Over the years, I learned how to refine and trust my gifts. By 2019, I felt called to stop hiding and start helping others with my intuition. That was the beginning of my business.
Today, I provide intuitive guidance sessions where clients can ask about all areas of life—career, business, relationships, and life path. Many people come to me with questions about love, but where I truly shine is helping people find clarity in their careers, businesses, and bigger life decisions. My background in education, corporate leadership, and talent development allows me to blend practical strategy with deep intuitive insight. That combination is what sets me apart—I can help people see not only what’s unfolding on a soul level, but also what concrete steps they can take in the real world.
What I’m most proud of is creating a safe space where clients feel seen, understood, and guided—especially those who might feel torn between the practical world and their spiritual side, just like I once did. My work is about showing people that intuition isn’t something to fear or dismiss; it’s a powerful tool that can help them make empowered, aligned choices.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A powerful lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that intuition was “of the devil.” Growing up in a conservative Catholic family, I was taught that anything intuitive or spiritual outside the Church was dangerous, even sinful. Because of that, I learned to suppress a huge part of myself. I ignored the sensations, visions, and insights I experienced, and I convinced myself that I should only trust what could be measured or proven. That belief carried me into adulthood, where I pursued higher education and built a career that was entirely focused on logic, reason, and structure.
But the truth was, intuition never left me. It kept showing up in subtle ways—guiding me, nudging me, and offering insights that logic couldn’t explain. During my first pregnancy, it grew so strong that I couldn’t deny it anymore. I realized that what I had been taught to fear was actually a gift—a natural ability that not only I had, but that everyone has in their own way.
Unlearning that old belief took time, because it meant letting go of a narrative that was deeply ingrained in my upbringing. But once I did, it was freeing. I now see intuition as something sacred, not something to fear. It’s a source of guidance, clarity, and empowerment.
That shift has changed everything for me personally and professionally. It allowed me to embrace my path as an Intuitive Professional, and it’s why I feel so passionate about helping others reconnect with their own inner knowing.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A story that illustrates my resilience is the moment I decided to leave the safety of a long academic and corporate career to build a business around my intuitive abilities. For nearly two decades, I worked as a professor and in leadership roles where success was measured by traditional achievements—degrees, promotions, and structure. Stepping away from that world to pursue something unconventional required me to not only start over, but also to face skepticism from others and self-doubt within myself.
I had to build a business model from scratch, learn an entirely new industry, and put myself out there in ways I never had before. There were times when I questioned if I had made the right decision, but resilience, for me, meant choosing to keep moving forward—adapting, learning, and finding ways to merge my practical expertise in career and business with my intuitive strengths.
Looking back, what I’m most proud of is that I didn’t let fear of failure or external judgment stop me. Instead, I turned a risk into an opportunity to create meaningful work. That resilience has not only shaped my business, but it also allows me to guide others through their own career transitions with clarity and confidence.
